SINGAPORE, 29 JUNE 2026 – In response to the devastating earthquakes that struck approximately 160 kilometres west of Caracas, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has pledged SGD 100,000 in humanitarian aid to support the immediate response efforts of the Venezuelan Red Cross and Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. The funds will go towards humanitarian assistance, including search and rescue operations, emergency medical care, and rapid assessments of humanitarian needs in the worst-affected areas.
SRC has also launched a public fundraising appeal to support the relief and recovery efforts for communities affected by the disaster. Funds raised through SRC’s public fundraising appeal will support the ground operations of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, including the provision of emergency shelter for displaced families, hygiene kits, cooking sets, essential household items, and medical supplies to communities affected by the earthquakes.
To help reunite families separated by the disaster, SRC has also activated the Restoring Family Links (RFL) service, which helps reconnect loved ones who have lost contact in the aftermath of emergencies. The public can email rfl@redcross.sg for assistance.
“The two massive earthquakes have caused widespread destruction of homes and public facilities, as well as, a great loss of lives. Even as the rescue efforts continue, the death toll continues to rise. We extend our heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones, and communities which have lost their homes and livelihoods. The full impact of this disaster and the extent of the casualties will only become clearer in the next few weeks. The humanitarian needs are expected to grow rapidly,” said Mr Benjamin William, Secretary General/CEO, Singapore Red Cross.
“The Singapore Red Cross is in contact with its Red Cross partners on the ground and stands ready to assist in whatever way we can. In the coming days, we will work with our partners to provide support to the communities that are affected by this disaster. Meanwhile, we call on all of us in Singapore to stand in solidarity with the affected communities in Venezuela, and extend support to these communities, including contributing to SRC’s public appeal to support the relief efforts,” he added.
The magnitude 7.2 earthquake, followed shortly by a magnitude 7.5 tremor, has claimed nearly 1,500 lives; injured more than 3,000 people, and affected an estimated 70,000 families, with the numbers expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue.
To strengthen the international humanitarian response, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has allocated 2 million Swiss francs from its Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF). According to the IFRC, anticipated priority needs include search and rescue, emergency shelter for families whose homes have been damaged or destroyed, emergency healthcare, including trauma care and psychosocial support, safe water and sanitation, and essential household items.
