Humanitarian Week 2026: Humanity Beyond Today
From 11 to 15 August, Humanitarian Week 2026 brought together youth, Red Cross Red Crescent Movement leaders and delegates, humanitarian practitioners, diplomatic representatives and partners under the theme, “Humanity Beyond Today”.
Across a series of engagements, the week explored the relevance of International Humanitarian Law (IHL), the importance of humanitarian partnerships, and how National Societies can strengthen their capacities for evolving humanitarian challenges.

Understanding IHL and the principles behind humanitarian action
Humanitarian Week began with the IHL Youth Dialogue on 11 August. With SRC youth volunteers playing an active role in the dialogue, youth learned about the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, its seven Fundamental Principles, and the role of IHL. Through case studies and discussion, they explored how IHL applies in different contexts and why it remains relevant amid today’s humanitarian challenges.
The dialogue also created space for youth to exchange perspectives and engage critically with humanitarian issues shaping the world around them.

Strengthening humanitarian partnerships
At Humanitarian Night 2026 on 12 August, SRC welcomed Red Cross Red Crescent Movement leaders and delegates, diplomatic representatives from more than 20 embassies, humanitarian partners and stakeholders to the Singapore Red Cross House.
Guests explored interactive booths showcasing SRC’s work across international humanitarian action, volunteer engagement, the Last Mile Programme and psychosocial resilience.

The evening also marked SRC’s continued humanitarian support for communities affected by the recent earthquakes in Colombia and Venezuela. SRC committed S$50,000 towards the humanitarian response in Colombia and a further S$50,000 towards the Venezuela earthquake response, marking a second tranche of support following an earlier S$100,000 commitment in June.
Both contributions form part of wider Red Cross Red Crescent Movement efforts to address humanitarian needs on the ground.

Three SRC youth volunteers also shared their musical talents through a Chinese ensemble performance during the evening.

Preparing together for evolving humanitarian challenges
On 13 August, the Better Together Dialogue brought leaders and delegates from Southeast Asian Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies together to reflect on emerging humanitarian challenges across their respective countries and the wider region.
Delegates exchanged perspectives on emerging priorities and capacity needs, and explored how the Better Together Solidarity Fund could support National Societies in strengthening their capacities and resilience across the region.
Across the three engagements, “Humanity Beyond Today” reflected the importance of remaining grounded in humanitarian principles while strengthening the knowledge, partnerships and capacities needed to respond to evolving humanitarian needs.
Humanitarian Week culminated in the 11th Singapore Humanitarian Conference 2026 on 15 August.
