On the Green for Humanity

On the Green for Humanity

More than 150 golfers joined us on the lush greens at Singapore Island Country Club and teed off for humanity at Singapore Red Cross (SRC) Charity Golf & Dinner 2026. Held on 19 May, Swing for Red successfully raised over $428,000 for SRC’s local humanitarian services, with all 39 flights taken up and all the dinner tables filled.

Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), Mr Desmond Tan graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour and delivered a speech to the golfers, diners and supporters at the event.

“Your generosity today enables this work to continue. In times of economic uncertainty and rising needs, strong partnerships matter even more. When businesses and individuals like yourself step forward, we build a community that is not only prosperous, but also compassionate and resilient.”

Organising Chairperson Ms Emily Tan also expressed her gratitude to all golfers, donors, sponsors and supporters for their generosity and involvement at this year’s Charity Golf & Dinner.

The memorable evening kicked off with an electrifying choreography by the XinZhuYun Dance Troupe’s that immersed guests in the vibrant spirit of Xinjiang, followed by a sumptuous dinner in the elegant Grand Ballroom at Singapore Island Country Club.

Guests also heard heartfelt sharings from two dedicated SRC volunteers, Samuel Ang and Dr Sean Elliot Png, who reflected on their experiences serving beneficiaries through the Medical Chaperone and Transportation service and Home Monitoring and Eldercare (HoME+) service respectively, offering a meaningful glimpse into the impact of volunteerism.

For Samuel, volunteering with the Medical Chaperone and Transportation team is not just about accompanying clients to their medical appointments. It is also about supporting them through hospital visits, which can be overwhelming for seniors to navigate alone.

“One experience that deeply touched me was with a client — I’ll call her Mdm Faimah, not her real name. After accompanying her for her medical appointment, she held my hands in hers and just said, ‘Thank you.’ But it wasn’t just the words. She had tears in her eyes.”

That moment taught Samuel that his role goes beyond just providing a service. He is also providing comfort to someone in need.

As a community responder with HoME+, a non-intrusive 24/7 home monitoring alert and response system, Dr Sean’s role includes responding to stay-alone seniors who activate the panic buttons in times of need. Through these experiences, he has witnessed how timely intervention can make a difference in moments of vulnerability.

“What makes HoME+ a truly powerful system is not just the network of sensors we install, but the call centre and network of volunteers that make timely pickup and intervention possible. Behind every alert is a real person, a real life, and ready to respond is a community of volunteers when it matters most.”

The evening continued with a beautiful medley of songs by Theophilus Darius Thomas, and culminated in an exciting raffle draw which brought smiles to 195 winners. The live and silent auction also successfully raised $6,700 in support of SRC’s local humanitarian services.

The SRC extends our sincere appreciation to Guest of Honour Senior Minister of State Mr Desmond Tan for gracing the event and for supporting the SRC’s humanitarian causes. We also thank our Organising Chairperson Ms Emily Tan and the Organising Committee, as well as our dedicated volunteers and staff for their contribution in making this event a resounding success.

Our heartfelt thanks to all golfers, donors, sponsors and supporters for your generosity and belief in our mission to uplift the lives of the vulnerable in our community.
