Rebuilding Lives in Gaza After Ceasefire: Singapore Red Cross Re-Launches Fundraising Appeal, Calls for Renewed Support for Relief Operations

Singapore, 28 October 2025 – Since the start of the first phase of the ceasefire on 10 October 2025, humanitarian partners have been able to gradually resume operations in areas of Gaza that were previously inaccessible. The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is relaunching its public fundraising appeal to rebuild lives and restore dignity through the humanitarian operations by the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) and Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

“The ceasefire has given us a critical window to move from emergency relief to rebuilding lives. The road to recovery will be long, but every act of compassion counts. We call on the people of Singapore to continue standing in solidarity with the vulnerable communities in Gaza as they rebuild their lives,” said Mr Benjamin William, Secretary General/CEO, Singapore Red Cross.

A Critical Humanitarian Situation

The needs in Gaza are immense, with 67,938 reported fatalities and 190,169 injured. Famine was confirmed in August 2025, and the majority of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) assets have been destroyed or damaged, limiting the access to drinking water. The destruction of infrastructure is catastrophic: at least 94% of all the hospitals in the Gaza Strip have been damaged or destroyed, leaving only 19 hospitals partially operational, providing only basic emergency care. 92% of housing units have been destroyed, displacing nearly all of Gaza’s population. More than one million children are in need of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), while over 658,000 school-aged children and 87,000 tertiary students are left without access to formal learning spaces.

Singapore Red Cross’ Response

SRC’s most recent humanitarian aid, comprising tents for an estimated 6,500 displaced individuals, arrived in Gaza earlier this month through the Karem Abo Salem Crossing to provide shelter to displaced individuals in Gaza.

To date, the SRC has contributed SGD 1.9 million in humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza, channelled through the Egyptian Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to provide vital support across several key areas:

  • Medical Assistance: Provision of medical supplies, hygiene kits and support for the Operation of the Red Cross Field Hospital
  • Food and Water: Provision of food parcels, essential food supplies, and water filtration systems to affected families
  • Shelter: Delivery of tents to provide displaced families with temporary housing
  • Education and Psychosocial Support: Funding a mobile education unit where a van will be retrofitted into a classroom to provide informal education for 2,000 Palestinian children in Egypt.
  • Health and Mental Wellbeing: Supporting mental health, and community health services to Palestinian families residing in Egypt.

SRC has also deployed an operations coordinator and an 8-person team to assist the ERCS with relief operations in 2024 and an additional operations coordinator in 2025. This marks SRC’s fourth appeal for Gaza, following three previous appeal campaigns launched since the onset of the crisis in 2023.

Partnership with ERC & PRCS for Sustained Humanitarian Aid

Since the ceasefire, the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has sent more than 400 shipments containing about 9,700 tonnes of humanitarian and petroleum aid into Gaza. The convoy carried about 5,700 tonnes of food and flour, 1,400 tonnes of medical supplies, and 2,500 tonnes of petroleum products to support the Palestinians in Gaza. Meanwhile, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) continues to serve as a lifeline for the people of Gaza, providing ambulance operations, medical evacuations, essential healthcare, mental health, psychosocial support, and emergency relief.
