Fundraising for a Good Cause & Bringing Joy to Persons with Disabilities

ERM Singapore Marketing Pte Ltd, organiser for Miss Singapore and Manhunt 2024, has partnered with the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) to fundraise for Grateful Hearts Day 2024. Besides grooming pageant finalists, ERM Marketing is committed to cultivating a culture of philanthropy and social responsibility, annually engaging its contestants in meaningful initiatives that give back to the community. By partnering with SRC this year,  they fundraised and raised awareness of SRC's local humanitarian services.

The pageant finalists created individual online campaigns which fundraised for SRC's Grateful Hearts Day to positively impact the lives of the beneficiaries whom the SRC serves.

Besides that, ERM Singapore Marketing Pte Ltd also initiated a fundraising campaign to fundraise to procure TENA diapers for the residents of the Red Cross Home for the Disabled (RCHD) and clients of the Day Activity Centre for the Disabled. Annually, the RCHD spends some $80,000 to procure diapers for the residents. The total amount raised for the SRC was $67,772.70, of which $20,152 was raised for purchasing diapers for the RCHD residents.

”Our motivation to fundraise diapers for the residents of RCHD stems from a deep commitment to supporting the most vulnerable members of our community. We recognise the critical need for necessities, and by providing diapers, we hope to bring comfort and dignity to the residents. Our goal is to make a positive impact on their daily lives and show that they are not alone in their struggles,” said Ms Angela Tay, Managing Director, ERM Singapore Marketing Pte Ltd.

Finalists of Miss Singapore and Mr Manhunt 2024 also visited Red Cross House on 1 June to learn more about SRC's humanitarian work and the Red Cross Home for the Disabled on 22 June to volunteer at the Home.

"I visited the Singapore Red Cross and was deeply impressed by the vital services it provides. From supporting seniors, children, and youth, to organising blood donation drives and assisting people with disabilities, its impact is remarkable. The visit reminded me of the importance of compassion and connection. It was a humbling experience that touched my heart deeply," said Thineswaran.

Interacting with the Residents

Beyond fundraising, the finalists interacted with and engaged the residents of RCHD on 22 June.

At the onset, they shared it was heartbreaking witnessing the residents' conditions and challenges first-hand as they felt they could not help them out of the situation.

"Words will never be enough to convey the feelings hidden behind that flesh and bone, remember they are like us. It was never their choice to be in that state. But it is our choice to devote our time and smiles to them. They need us as much as we need them," said Vincent.

Witnessing their Radiant Smiles

The finalists assisted the caregivers by feeding and celebrating the residents' birthdays, and cleaning their wheelchairs, to ensure they were well-maintained. The volunteering session was a humbling experience for the finalists. They were grateful for the opportunity to forge a rapport with the residents while witnessing their radiant smiles, which spoke volumes about how much the residents enjoyed the session.

"Feeding the residents and cleaning their wheelchairs filled me with compassion. Celebrating the residents’ birthdays warmed my heart," said Nicole.

"The session enabled us to connect deeply with them, witnessing their strength and gratitude firsthand," said Ying Ying.

Banding Together in Compassion & Kindness

The volunteering experience bore testimony to the power of humanity. When people rallied together in solidarity, embracing compassion, kindness and connection, they could profoundly impact the lives they touch.

"This experience has reinforced our belief in the power of community support," said Ying Ying.

"It emphasised the profound impact of small acts of kindness, urging others to support and create a more inclusive community for everyone," said Cherlyn Tan.

Gaining Perspectives about Life

The finalists gleaned enriching insights interwoven into the rich tapestry of life. Not only did they learn about counting one's blessings, but they also learnt the importance of uplifting the lives of those in need.

"Growing up in a fast-paced environment, it's easy to overlook the small joys in life. This experience has taught me the significance of living in the present moment, acknowledging the struggles of others, and offering a helping hand to those in need," said Krisha Raj.

"It was an eye-opening experience that made me realise that life is more than living for ourselves. I learnt about giving back, spreading love and thriving in this world through humanity. I learnt they are not disabled, they are differently abled. They are not limited, they are special," said Vanessa.

"I realise the importance of utilising our privileges to make a positive difference in their lives, even through small gestures. The simplest acts of love can have a profound impact, enriching both their lives and ours," said Rebecca Kwek.

Encouraging Others to Visit the Residents

The finalists hope to inspire others to follow in their footsteps to volunteer and uplift the lives of those in need.

"I hope more people will be inspired and see the value in visiting them as a small act goes a long way," said Ewan Oh.

"A little action goes a long way. You may think it's a small gesture. But to the residents, it means a lot to them. Join us to bring joy and happiness to the residents!" said Joey Yeo.
