Linkamania 2018

By Carmen Hoo, Red Cross Youth

Not all superheros wear capes. At Linkamania 2018, 120 links, Red Cross Youth members from various primary schools, came together to experience a Marvel-themed day camp at Red Cross campsite on 26th May 2018.

On 26 May, our Volunteer Instructors put up three entertaining skits which brought the links into a land of adventures. The links were separated into groups named Ironman, War Machine, Spiderman, Hulk, Captain America, Falcon, Black Widow, Hawkeye and Black Panther. Each of whom had their own super powers and weaknesses.

In order to improve their weakness, each group had to go through a formidable amazing race to prepare for their next mission. After getting stronger and better, each group raced against time to gain points through subject based games to qualify for the final showdown (campfire). The links went through a series of RCY subject-based games to learn more about about First Aid, Red Cross Knowledge, Youth Ambassador Blood Programme, Outdoor Activity and Footdrill. With the new and fresh knowledge gained, the links could finally pull through the race and ended it on a high note.

To round up Linkamania 2018, Linka night commenced with the arrival of the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Sahari Ani, Director of Red Cross Youth. Mr Sahari delivered an inspiring and encouraging speech to kick off the campfire. Games such as Marvel Quiz and Marvel Battle were played, and everyone participated with high levels of enthusiasm and energy! To officially end the whole of Linkamania 2018, everyone got onto their feet and danced along to the mass dance choreographed by the Volunteer Instructors.

With that, Linkamania 2018 came to an end and it was time for everyone to part ways. It is with heavy hearts that the day of fun and joy had to end but we wish that the links gained some new insights, forged new friendships and had an invaluable experience with everyone at Linkamania 2018! Until then, see you at Linkamania 2019!
