Singapore Red Cross Ambassador, Dawn Sim and Hannah Chia, Marketing & Communications Manager, Carlton Hotel Singapore engaged the seniors and distributed mooncakes to them amid the mid-autumn festivities, bringing joy to them.
In the spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival, more than 30 seniors from our ElderAid programme came together on 17 September for a day filled with creativity, laughter, and meaningful connection. Held at Kampung Senang, the celebration featured a vibrant array of activities including lantern-making, Chinese face mask colouring, and a heartwarming exchange with Sparkletots pre-schoolers.
The seniors immersed themselves in the art of lantern making, unleashing their creativity and artistic flair as they delicately coloured Chinese face masks and crafted lanterns, each unique and full of character. The seniors' radiant smiles spoke volumes about their delight in the activities, as well as in the company of the children. The preschoolers, in turn, enthralled the seniors with a spirited song and dance performance, adding zest to the occasion.
For Mdm Poh Siwe Wa, 82, this event offered joy through simple pleasures.
“I enjoyed the arts and crafts and games sessions, and spending time with the children,” she shared, reflecting on the warmth that these intergenerational interactions bring.
Mdm Tan Gek Hong, 78, echoed similar sentiments, “I love the children! I also love arts and crafts, as I can exercise my hands and mind.”
The art activities offered a creative outlet and an opportunity to stay mentally and physically active, which she greatly appreciated.
Singapore Red Cross (SRC) ambassador, Dawn Sim, joined the festivities, wholeheartedly participating in the activities and spreading warmth and cheer with her heartfelt interactions. Her presence added to the atmosphere of joy, and her engagement with the elders was an example of SRC's commitment to fostering community and companionship for seniors.
To add a sweet note to the occasion, each elder received a complimentary gift bag with festive mooncake treats, generously sponsored by Carlton Hotel. The mooncakes symbolised not only the festive season but also the compassion and thoughtfulness of those who contributed to the celebration.
This Mid-Autumn celebration epitomised the spirit of compassion and empathy, bringing moments of connection, laughter, and joy to the seniors. By sharing these festive moments with the elders, we ensure that they feel valued and cherished within the community.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Carlton Hotel for sponsoring the mooncakes, and brightening the celebrations for our seniors.
