Beginning of a Lifelong Commitment

Mrs Genevieve Peggy Jeffs' volunteering journey with the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) began in the early 1990s when she joined the SRC's Lucky Draw committee. Her involvement exposed her to the Red Cross Movement's Seven Fundamental Principles; humanity, independence, neutrality, impartiality, voluntary service, unity, and universality, which deeply resonated with her, setting the foundation for a lifelong dedication to humanitarian service.

During her residency in London from 2003 to 2007, Mrs Jeffs broadened her philanthropic efforts by joining the International Red Cross Fundraising Committee, dedicating herself to aiding the disadvantaged with relentless vigour.

Upon her return to Singapore, Mrs Jeffs was invited to chair the SRC Benefit Gala, a role she graciously assumed with enthusiasm. The prestigious event, held biennially, gathers philanthropists, community leaders, corporate executives, entrepreneurs and compassionate individuals, all united in support of the SRC’s vision.

Under Mrs Jeff’s leadership, the galas have become renowned for their enthralling performances, auctions, and raffle draws, drawing substantial support and participation. Guests can anticipate a delightful evening featuring entertaining hosts and exclusive auction items and for the Benefit Gala 2024’s lineup, a calligraphy by President Tharman, among others. The gala evenings also includes an exciting raffle with prizes that include luxury jewellery, collector’s items, luxury hotel stays and air tickets.

Beyond the charity galas, Mrs Jeffs also organised the International Bazaar for several years, creating a vibrant marketplace where diplomatic communities showcased traditional and heritage products, and cultural performances - from Swiss chocolates and raclette, Chilean empanadas to Mexican Dances. Leveraging her extensive network, the International Bazaar also engaged corporate partners, high society, performers, donors, and sponsors. The bazaar celebrates the global mosaic of cultures and rallying support for vulnerable communities.

Her guiding principle for volunteers is straightforward yet profound: "First, you must believe in what you are supporting. Then you can work hard to achieve it."

Personal Reflections and Fulfilment

Reflecting on her experiences at the Red Cross Home for the Disabled, she recalls touching interactions with individuals whose lives were altered by unforeseen circumstances. One poignant memory involves a once-accomplished woman in her mid-40s, and a devoted mother visiting her son with disabilities daily. These encounters further fuel her passion and commitment to serve and advocate for those in need, reinforcing the deep personal fulfilment she derives from her humanitarian work.

"One needs passion to engage in charity work. Challenges drive me to continually improve, to devise better strategies each time. Personal fulfilment brings me joy and is what inspires me to persevere."

We express our deepest gratitude to Mrs. Genevieve Peggy Jeffs for her extraordinary contributions and hope she continues to inspire and uplift those around her. Her journey is a testament to the power of love, dedication, and the profound impact one individual can have on many lives.
