MediaCorp Radio Personalities Jean Danker and Edward Russell hosted the Singapore Red Cross Charity Quiz Night at Cafe Melba at Mediapolis on 12 July.

14 teams pitted their knowledge of the local news, general knowledge, sports, and music in the quiz. The participants contributed $35 per person to join the Charity Quiz Night. The event raised over $2,000 for the Singapore Red Cross' (SRC), annual fundraiser, 'Grateful Hearts Day' which fundraises to support SRC's local humanitarian work, uplifting the lives of vulnerable communities including isolated seniors, children/youth from disadvantaged backgrounds, families-in-need, and persons with disabilities.

Jean, also a Celebrity Ambassador of the Singapore Red Cross (SRC), recounted how the Quiz Night was conceived.

"We have been conducting quizzes daily on the show, and have always wanted to organise a live, physical quiz. It was the perfect opportunity for us to do it and raise funds for this campaign. I discussed this idea with my on-air partner, Edward Russell, and he was game to join me for the Quiz Night," said Jean.  

She felt heartened by the outpouring of support at the Quiz Night.

"I’m happy about the turnout and massive support despite the short lead time we had to put this together! I had way more fun than I’d expected! We had a good crowd. They were loud, fun and sporting! The quiz was awesome for us to host. I enjoyed myself very much," said Jean. 

Jean perceived that the Quiz Night achieved its objectives.

"We raised some funds for this campaign. But also very importantly, we raised awareness of all the amazing work the Singapore Red Cross does!" said Jean.

As a Celebrity Ambassador of the SRC, Jean is inspired to do something for a good cause.

"I always feel I’m not doing enough. I am glad how this has turned out! I am always happy to help out!" said Jean.

Jean is appreciative of the SRC employees for lending a helping hand with organising the event and the patrons and participants who turned up and made a contribution to the worthy cause. 

"Big thanks to everyone at the Singapore Red Cross for jumping in and helping with the organising too, and for everyone who turned up and donated!! We love you," said Jean. 

The top three teams went home with exciting prizes such as a two-night stay at Village Hotel Sentosa in a Deluxe Family Room with daily breakfast for four worth over $2,300, pilates reformer classes at Fly Project worth over $700, and Cafe Melba dining vouchers.
