Columbia Preschool's Art Exhibition and Charity Auction - A Kaleidoscope of Colours

Children and teachers of Columbia Preschool unleashed their creativity by drawing and painting for a good cause from 27 May to 20 June.

The art projects, comprising paintings on five canvases, 275 2D and 3D art pieces, and paintings/drawings on 12 tote bags, were auctioned live on 21 June.

"Our centre organises art exhibitions annually. This year, we organised a charity drive and auction to raise funds for children, by children, which is our slogan this year. Empathy is one of Columbia Preschool's core values.  It is a great opportunity for Columbia Preschool to impart the importance of empathy and kindness to motivate the children, families and staff to do their part for charity, learn to be grateful for what they have, and give back to society," said Ms Emily Ho, Columbia’s Preschool's Founder.

Besides the children, the teachers contributed by selling crochet coasters and baked cookies. They were sold out on 21 June. Parents chipped in by bringing pre-loved items for its thrift corner. Family members, friends and employees of Columbia Preschool attended the auction.

At the end of the auction, 173 art pieces were sold. Their collective efforts raised over $6,500 for the Singapore Red Cross' Young Hearts programme which fosters self-reliance and empowers children and young persons from disadvantaged families by providing them access to out-of-reach opportunities.

“I feel happy because mummy and daddy bought my art pieces and I can donate the money to others," said Elliot Goh Ming Xun, aged six.

“I feel happy to help others, so they, in turn, can be happy.” Chia Ren Hao, 6 years old.

Likewise, the teachers and Ms Ho derived fulfilment in contributing to a good cause. They also expressed their gratitude to the people who contributed to the cause.

"It gave us much joy, satisfaction and pride knowing that we contributed to a good cause. We feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in raising $6,500 for charity. We are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference. We thank the employees of Columbia Preschool for working on the art pieces and setting up the art exhibition. We appreciate the support and generosity of families, friends and colleagues of Columbia Preschool. We hope this art exhibition and charity auction will inspire the children to become more empathetic and compassionate towards others in need," said Ms Ho.

SRC would like to thank Columbia Preschool for organising the live auction to fundraise and uplift the lives of the vulnerable people that the SRC serves.
