Singapore Red Cross (SRC) appreciates Mount Alvernia's invaluable partnership in safeguarding the well-being of our residents and employees of the Red Cross Home for the Disabled (RCHD) by providing the annual flu vaccination over two sessions on 3 June 2024 and 30 June 2024.
The Health Promotion Board recommends annual flu vaccinations to safeguard against the common flu. Flu vaccinations are even more important for the elderly and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who have weakened immune systems, making them more vulnerable to viruses and could suffer worse complications from the flu.
Given the above, and the fact that it is challenging for the elderly and PWDs to visit polyclinics or clinics for vaccinations due to mobility and other challenges, the Mount Alvernia Outreach Team rolled out an initiative to conduct complimentary annual flu vaccinations for the residents and beneficiaries of identified social service partners at their respective premises.
Mount Alvernia Hospital was founded by the nuns of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood, and central to the founders’ mission is a commitment to give back to the community and serve the marginalised and vulnerable population. This legacy is carried forward by the Mount Alvernia Outreach Team which runs several programmes to help disadvantaged communities, one of which was providing complimentary annual flu vaccinations to residents and beneficiaries of identified social service partners such as the SRC.
"Over the past seven years, Mount Alvernia Outreach Team has provided complimentary flu vaccinations to RCHD’s residents. The vaccinations not only shield residents from the potentially severe effects of the flu but also foster a safer and healthier environment within the Home when employees are also vaccinated. We are committed to continuing our collaboration with SRC to support and serve the RCHD community in the future," reported the Mount Alvernia Outreach team.
"We highly commend Mount Alvernia Hospital for its ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of the Red Cross Home for the Disabled's residents through the provision of free flu vaccinations since 2018. This philanthropic initiative demonstrates the hospital's dedication to social responsibility and its understanding of the unique healthcare needs of vulnerable populations," said Mr Adrian Lim, Director Care Services, Singapore Red Cross.
