Singapore Red Cross Teams Up with Singapore Civil Defence Force and Accenture to Launch ‘The Unbreakables’ Charity Initiative for “Be Our Champion for Humanity”

Singapore, 4 September 2024 – As part of the Singapore Red Cross’ (SRC) “Be Our Champion for Humanity” fundraiser, the SRC has teamed up with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Accenture to launch ‘The Unbreakables’ charity event. Inspired by SCDF’s Operation Lionheart deployment to Kahramanmaras, Türkiye following the 2023 Türkiye-Syria earthquake, twenty limited-edition figurines were specially created for the charity event. The figurines represent the various roles of the Operation Lionheart contingent members and honours the volunteers who had selflessly stepped up to manage the generous outpouring of in-kind donations from the public to aid the disaster victims.

This charity event invites the public to be one with the humanitarian spirit of Operation Lionheart by donating towards SRC’s local humanitarian efforts, which supports a number of causes that uplift the lives of vulnerable communities, including people with severe disabilities; the elderly living alone; disadvantaged families, youth and children; and migrant workers.

Any amount will go a long way in helping this cause, but for every donation of $5,000, donors will receive one of the twenty limited-edition figurines in recognition of their generosity.

“Despite the bitter, cold and harsh conditions faced by the Operation Lionheart contingent members during their rescue mission, their spirits never broke. The impact of their work is inspiring and long-lasting. The Singapore Red Cross would like to thank the Singapore Civil Defence Force and Accenture for their partnership and support towards our local humanitarian causes,” said Mr Benjamin William, Secretary-General/CEO of Singapore Red Cross.

“The Unbreakables’ is a wonderful opportunity to bring the humanitarian spirit of Operation Lionheart to the wider community. I have witnessed firsthand the dedication and commitment of the volunteers who selflessly stepped up at a moment’s notice to put in long hours in sorting through a literal mountain of in-kind donations from the public and prepare them for the disaster victims. This is why I truly believe that Operation Lionheart is not just about the rescue mission overseas, but also the efforts back home in harnessing the collective power of good and the desire of many to make the world a better place. These figurines represent this very same spirit in the generosity of the donors - recognising their contributions to Singapore Red Cross’ mission in making a meaningful difference to the lives of the less fortunate.” DC Teong How Hwa, Deputy Commissioner (Strategy & Corporate Services), Singapore Civil Defence Force

Celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the SRC remains steadfast in its dedication to relieve human suffering, protecting lives and dignity, and responding to emergencies. The SRC serves both local and international vulnerable communities, building capacity and resilience through its various programs, services and academies.
