Employee Engagement in Sustainability

On the occasion of our 75th Anniversary, we organised two employee engagement activities that were sustainability-themed, to express our care for the environment -  coast to coast, heart to heart! Read on to find out more!

Beach Clean-up

In line with the SRC 75th anniversary's theme 'Coast to Coast, Heart to Heart', over 30 SRC employees came together to clean up the beach and coastal areas of Pasir Ris beach on 27 September. The SRC Volunteer Club organised the Beach Clean up to protect marine ecosystems, wildlife, and the environment while providing employees with the opportunities to interact and foster greater camaraderie among employees.

The SRC Volunteer Club champions volunteerism by organising quarterly volunteer opportunities for employees to engage with various causes and programmes in SRC. Through volunteerism, employees enrich their personal and professional journeys, while forging shared bonds and experiences.

Planting of 75 Trees

To commemorate our 75th anniversary, our in-house Sustainability & Innovation workgroup rallied over 80 SRC employees, Council Members and families to plant 75 trees at Coney Island Park on 11 October. This symbolic gesture underscored our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, aligning with our mission to serve humanity.

The tree planting initiative is part of the nationwide OneMillionTrees Movement launched in April 2020, targeted at planting one million more trees across Singapore over the next decade. This effort will bring the total number of trees in Singapore to eight million, enhancing our streetscapes, gardens, parks and park connectors, nature reserves and nature parks.

Trees benefit our environment in various ways. As natural air filters, trees provide us with cleaner air. Besides that, trees mitigate the Urban Heat Island effect and climate change effect, while regulating the water cycle by slowing down floodwaters and cleaning the water that flows into our waterways.

Both initiatives brought people together, bolstered friendship and camaraderie, and empowered everyone to take responsibility and play their role in caring for the environment.
