Demonstrating Resilience at the Launch of Tengah Bus Interchange

The Singapore Red Cross was invited to be one of the hosts present at the launch of the Tengah Bus Interchange on 28 July. Red Cross Youth Cadets, trained in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) conducted demonstrations as part of the 'Volunteer Student Ambassadors CPR-AED programme' at the launch of the Tengah Bus Interchange.

Besides the Red Cross Youth, other youth trained in CPR and AED from other Uniformed Groups were also present at the event. Participation in the programme was recognised as a Values-in-Action Project for TD Gold Badge for the Uniformed Groups cadets.

"I felt proud demonstrating the first aid modules to the public at the opening of the Tengah Bus Interchange. Seeing people of all ages excited and willing to learn a new skill was truly an eye-opening experience that encouraged me. Learning CPR and AED as an RCY cadet is important as I could make a difference by saving someone's life in an emergency. I'm glad I shared this knowledge with the public. I encourage people to learn first aid as it is an essential skill. It can make the difference between life and death in an emergency. Who knows, learning first aid may one day help you or a loved one," said Charlotte Bay, Red Cross Youth.

"Demonstrating the first aid modules at the recent Tengah Interchange event was both an inspiring and rewarding experience. It was fulfilling to see participants engaged and learning the vital skills of CPR and AED usage. Understanding these techniques is crucial, as it equips individuals to respond effectively in emergencies, potentially saving lives. I would encourage everyone to embrace first aid training, not only for personal readiness but to contribute to a safer community where we are all prepared to act in critical moments," said Nathan Koh, Red Cross Youth.

The event was further distinguished by the presence of Senior Minister of State Amy Khor, who served as the Guest of Honour. Demonstrating her support for these vital life-saving skills, Minister Khor actively participated in a CPR demonstration, where she learnt to administer CPR on a manikin under the guidance of a Red Cross Youth Cadet. This interaction underscored the importance of widespread CPR training and showcased the hands-on support of government leaders in bolstering community preparedness.
