As part of the Food Republic and Food Junction's Corporate Social Responsibility programme to foster community engagement and inclusivity through community dining and a love for food in Singapore, the team invited our ElderAid Seniors to unleash their creativity in colouring at Food Republic, City Square Mall, on 2 July.
Fostering a Culture of Empathy to Uplift the Lives of Seniors
Food Republic and Food Junction shared the rationale for this meaningful initiative.
"The Food Republic and Food Junction's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to foster community engagement and inclusivity through community dining and a love for food in Singapore. Committed to giving back to the community and building meaningful connections, Food Republic and Food Junction introduce meaningful initiatives, bring people together, enhance well-being, and contribute to our society," said the Food Atrium Team.
Art on Display: Spreading Awareness with Every Sip
During the event, seniors were given a choice of images inspired by food and dining scenes to colour. With enthusiasm and vibrant colours, they infused each piece with their personal touch.
The highlight of this initiative is the transformation of selected artwork that was printed onto a total of 100,000 disposable cups. These cups will be distributed at all Food Republic and Food Junction outlets in September.
These cups were canvasses for seniors' artistic expressions and served as functional items. Each cup features a QR code linked to a fundraising page on give.asia, encouraging contributions to support SRC’s local programmes.
For 89-year-old Mdm Loh, participating in her first colouring session was a memorable experience. Despite her challenge holding the colouring pencil steadily, her determination, supported by helpful volunteers, led to her artwork being one of those featured on the cups.
"I was happy to see my colouring printed on the cups. I cherish these outings and activities organised by the SRC, as I am always well cared for," shared Mdm Loh with a smile, reflecting the profound personal impact of this initiative.
This campaign showcases the seniors' creative expressions and aims to enhance awareness and support for SRC’s ElderAid programme, demonstrating the power of community and art in bringing people together.
Relishing the Signature Singaporean Dishes
Our seniors also enjoyed a delightful meal at Food Republic, choosing from local favourites like chicken rice, fishball soup and more. Accompanying their meals were drinks and desserts such as barley, sea salt chendol or the nostalgic ice ball - a rare treat that evoked fond childhood memories.
Gratitude for the Opportunity to Interact with the Seniors
The Food Atrium Team expressed appreciation for the chance to engage with the seniors.
"Our employees feel grateful for the opportunity to interact with the seniors. The art sessions offer a unique and fulfilling way to bond and share moments of creativity, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved. We hope this campaign will spread awareness while adding a touch of warmth to each customer's dining experience," said the Food Atrium Team.
This initiative transcends typical dining experiences by transforming them into joyful, community-driven events. It connects creativity with culinary enjoyment, fostering empathy and supporting the seniors.
The Singapore Red Cross extends its heartfelt thanks to the Food Republic for partnering in this initiative, which brought joy to the seniors and supported a meaningful fundraising cause.
