Mr Louis Ng, Member of Parliament of the Nee Soon East division of Nee Soon GRC, officiated the opening of the Nee Soon Care Corner at Block 269B Yishun Street 22 on 16 January 2024.
Benefiting Children of our Young Hearts Programme
The Nee Soon East Care Corner provides a safe space and greater accessibility for young children of the Singapore Red Cross Young Hearts programme as they attend tuition classes. In addition to the existing Young Hearts centre currently at A’Posh Biz Hub, children can also attend the classes at the doorsteps of their homes at the new dedicated Nee Soon East Care Corner. With the two dedicated spaces, students can attend a designated session once weekly for his / her educational level from Mondays to Thursdays, from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Social Interaction for Seniors of our ElderAid Programme
For seniors residing in rental flats of Blk 269A & 269B Yishun Street 22 and the surrounding flats, the Care Corner's location offers convenience. The greater accessibility enables them to actively participate in the various programmes, enhancing their quality of life while keeping loneliness at bay. Seniors can step out of their homes to engage with their community, socialise, and participate in activities such as arts and crafts sessions, exercise programmes, and useful and insightful talks. An example could be a talk by the Infocomm Media Development Authority on utilising Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers with smartphones.
Approximately 30 people attended the opening of the Nee Soon Care Corner, including Mr Teo Chee Wah, Nee Soon East Constituency Director, Mr Tan Meng, JP, BBM as the Acting Chairman of the Nee Soon Town Council, People's Association members, Grassroot members, 10 children from the Young Hearts programme and employees of the Singapore Red Cross.
Adviser Louis & Mr Tan Meng toured the Nee Soon East Care Corner following the official opening ceremony.
