I've Got Drip

Our vision is to spark a movement where giving blood becomes a meaningful experience that young people are proud to be part of and eager to share with others. As Singapore moves towards being a super-aged society, the demand for blood is rising yet fewer young people are stepping forward to donate.

By turning “drip” into a symbol of empowerment and advocacy, we hope to spark a wave of youth participation and inspire action - transforming blood donation into something they find fulfilling, relevant and shareable. Because at the end of the day, real drip isn’t just about what you wear, it’s about what you give.

MEET OUR BLOOD DONORS

Sabrina Marican, 30 yo

“It turned out to be a lot less painful than expected, and everyone was so encouraging.”

With the support of volunteers and friends, Sabrina’s first donation experience became an enjoyable and meaningful one. After hearing the stories of beneficiaries, she realised how meaningful blood donation truly is despite it being just a simple act.

Kukan s/o Mogan, 25 yo

“I started donating blood when my friend invited me along. I figured, why not give it a try? Plus, I thought the bandage they gave you afterwards was cool. It’s actually not painful at all.”

After learning more about blood donation, Kukan realised that a simple act of blood donation can make a big difference – giving someone else another chance at life. He mentions, “If you’re worried it’ll take too long, just have a hotpot and drink plenty of water or isotonic drinks before donating, it’ll go by in no time!”

DID YOU KNOW?

  1. Blood demand never stops.
15 units of blood is used every hour in Singapore. Hospitals in Singapore need 400 units of blood daily to meet the daily transfusion needs of patients.
  1. Every drop counts.
When blood level dips, it becomes harder to meet urgent needs. A single low period which typically happens during festive seasons, as well as long weekends and school holidays can disrupt lifesaving procedures for patients in need.
  1. 1 blood donation can save up to 3 lives.
1 bag of blood can save 3 lives as whole blood is separated into 3 components - red blood cells, plasma and platelets. Your single donation helps patients in various situations – from those undergoing major surgeries, cancer treatments, chronic blood conditions to victims of trauma and emergencies.
  1. Blood doesn’t last forever.
Red blood cells can only be stored for up to 42 days, and platelets for just 7 days. Hospitals rely on a constant flow of new donations to keep shelves stocked and lives saved.
  1. The universal blood type is also the most critical.
Group O blood, the universal blood group that can also be used in emergencies by patients of any blood group, is most vulnerable to fluctuations due to its high demand.

MEET THE LIVES YOU SAVE

Singapore Red Cross Blood Beneficiary Kristen Juliet Soh

“Before this, I’d never thought much about how blood donations would help the person on the receiving end.”

– Kristen Juliet Soh, 40 yo, Blood Beneficiary

Ms Soh, then 29 years old, was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer which affects the immune system. Chemotherapy left her weak and anaemic, but blood transfusions helped her regain strength and continue treatment. Over 18 weeks, she received several transfusions before her cancer went into remission. She shares her stories to highlight how blood donors played a vital role in their journeys back to health. Now a mother of 2 boys, she is immensely grateful to the strangers whose donation gave her a new life in her darkest days.

“It showed me how much we rely on strangers and the generosity of giving, just in case someone like me needs it.”

Lim Su Peh, 39 yo, Blood Beneficiary

Ms Lim had lived with low platelets for years, but during labour, a sudden drop left her unable to have an epidural. After hours of intense pain, she received a platelet transfusion to aid her recovery, a procedure she had never realised was possible. The experience made her truly appreciate how much patients  rely on the generosity of strangers and the lifesaving power of blood donation.

Singapore Red Cross Blood Beneficiary Lim Wei Ming

“Your decision made an incredible difference in my life.”

– Lim Wei Ming, 36 yo, Blood Beneficiary

When Mr Lim was diagnosed with Wilson’s disease in September 2021, he was told he had only three months to live. Due to his failing organs, he needed regular blood transfusions to sustain his body functions. This treatment stabilised him for a lifesaving liver transplant that gave him a second chance.

He expressed his deep gratitude to blood donors for the gift that allowed him to see the birth of his two children.
