On 4 May 2024, Red Cross Youth (RCY) Uniformed Group organised its annual World Red Cross Day at Nan Chiau High School!
The World Red Cross Day event adopted the theme 'Coast to Coast, Heart to Heart', also the theme of the Singapore Red Cross 75th anniversary. It underscores that the work of the Red Cross transcends coasts, and touches hearts.
The World Red Cross Day Enrolment and Graduation of RCY Links & Cadets saw more than 1,500 primary school Links, secondary school Cadets Volunteer Instructors, and Youth Officers attending the event. Ms Yvonne Loo, a Council Member of the Singapore Red Cross, graced the morning ceremony while Ms Charis Chan, the Singapore Red Cross’s Assistant Secretary General (Operations) graced the ceremony in the afternoon.
Newly inducted Links and Cadets were welcomed to the Red Cross family at the enrolment ceremony.
"Our new Red Cross Youth Links can look forward to learning more about the Red Cross Movement, first aid, blood donation, emergency preparedness, and participating actively in community service learning. These experiences will strengthen your communication and organisational skills, and build your character, leadership, resilience and teamwork," said Ms Loo in her speech.
"Our new Red Cross Youth Cadets can look forward to learning more about the Red Cross Movement, first aid, blood donation, mental wellness, emergency preparedness, and participating actively in community service learning and social entrepreneurship. We will leverage digital technology and innovate curriculum delivery to nurture future-ready youth. Your shared experiences in RCY will build your character, leadership, resilience and teamwork, and strengthen your communication and organisational skills," said Ms Chan in her speech.
Graduating Links and Cadets were recognised for their contributions towards humanity.
"I hope that many of our graduating RCY members will choose to continue your Red Cross Youth journey as you advance in your education. Thank you for giving your best to RCY, and go on to touch hearts and give back to society. May the friendships you forged and the lessons learnt stand you in good stead as you grow. I wish you the best as you prepare for the national examinations," said Ms Chan.
The event also recognised the steadfast and tireless contributions of Red Cross Youth members, Volunteer Instructors, Youth Officers, and the units in shaping youth into humanitarian leaders of tomorrow.
