Initiated by Occupational and Physiotherapists of the Red Cross Home for the Disabled (RCHD), the Shoe Project aims to provide residents who participate in standing exercises, machine exercises or ambulation with shoes to protect their feet from injury. This initiative also enables the residents to look presentable during community outings.
Five staff, including the Occupational Therapist, Nursing Aide and Therapy Aides, and a volunteer, brought six residents on an outing to VivoCity on 15 March.
RCHD received 40 pairs of shoes from donors who supported the Shoe Project, an initiative for the public/ corporate donors to contribute brand new shoes to our residents.
Six residents visited Toys"R"Us at VivoCity on 15 March.
Residents enjoyed themselves checking out the toys at Toys"R"Us.
Residents' radiant smiles spoke volumes about how much they enjoyed engaging in various activities.
At the playground, Nursing Aide Cherry Ann Garcia and a Therapy Aide engaged resident Lian Chye in play, as she relished the precious moments spent outdoors.
Residents had an opportunity to practice their social skills. Those who could verbalise were encouraged to express gratitude by saying "thank you" to retail employees who distributed lotion samples to them. They also engaged in a ball game and played musical instruments that exercised their hand-eye coordination, and visual and auditory senses.
The Singapore Red Cross is grateful for the donation of shoes from corporate donors that enabled the residents to protect their feet while enjoying themselves outdoors.
The Therapy Team at the Red Cross Home for the Disabled conducts two community outings monthly for the residents. Companies may consider sponsoring the residents' outings (ticketed admissions) or defraying the transportation costs for our residents (all wheelchair users). They can also consider sponsoring hampers for the residents. The public may consider volunteering as chaperones for these outings. If you wish to bring the residents for an outing, please email enquiry@redcross.sg. |
