Singapore Red Cross Supports Relief Operations For Yunnan Earthquake

The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) has committed US$50,000 in humanitarian aid, to be delivered by the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), for survivors of the Yunnan Earthquake. The contribution supports the purchase and distribution of immediate relief supplies such as tents, family essential packs, amenity bags, food, water and medicine.

“Rescue and relief efforts have been challenged by bouts of heavy rain and landslides in the past few days. Thousands of people remain vulnerable and we are working with RCSC to reach out to them as soon as possible,” said Benjamin William, Secretary General/CEO of the Singapore Red Cross.

More than 100 Red Cross relief workers are working onsite to render rescue services and provide relief distribution to the affected community, following the widespread devastation resulting from the magnitude-6.1 earthquake which struck on Sunday, 3 August. The earthquake has so far caused 589 deaths, 2,401 injuries and affected more than 20,000 people.
