Like many others, the person who motivated me to donate blood was my Commanding Officer when I just joined the army as a recruit.
The Officer in Command encouraged us to donate blood to save lives. To me, the Commanding Officer was like a hero. He was very encouraging, supportive and gave us a lot of motivation to donate blood.
My most memorable experience donating blood was during the Spyros disaster in 1978 where 76 people were killed. I was on a training course in Ayer Rajah. When I heard about the incident, I went to donate blood.
