Day Activity Centre for the Disabled

The Singapore Red Cross Day Activity Centre for the Disabled (DAC) is a community-based facility providing daycare for individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.

About DAC

DAC's dedicated team of caregivers and therapists engages the clients in varied activities to ensure their physical, emotional and social well-being while equipping them with basic daily routine and community living skills. Occasionally, the team takes the clients on group outings for social recreation and interaction. They offer the family members peace of mind and assurance that the clients are well cared for during the day.

Who can Benefit

  • Persons with Disabilities (PwD) with varying physical and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • PwD with mild autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
  • PwD who are ineligible for Sheltered Workshop programmes due to their disabilities.
  • Caregivers who need some respite time to avoid burnout.
  • For caregivers to have peace of mind when they go to work.

Testimonials from Caregivers

“We chose the DAC because of the homely, airy and bright environment, the food provided and its cleanliness. We are happy with the service as the staff are very responsive, they constantly update us on Fahmi’s well-being and condition and they know how to handle the situation when Ahmad experiences an epileptic fit.

In the past, he used to be in his own world; he would play on his own in his room. These days, he can sit with us in the living room for longer periods of time to watch TV and he is no longer afraid of being in the presence of people.”

— Mdm Nuraini Bte Mohd Noor, mother of Ahmad Fahmi Bin Yusuf

Sensory Garden

Gardening augments clients' awareness of visual, touch and olfactory sensations, arouses clients' curiosity, and kindles interest while bringing them good cheer and joy. The garden is an oasis, offering tranquillity to the clients. Volunteers tend to the garden, which boasts a variety of herbs and edible varieties — including Thai basil, Brazil spinach, and mint and okra plants. Through gardening, the clients also benefit from social interactions and exposure to nature.
