It’s free! There’s nothing to lose, but much to gain. Start the year, restore a heart.
Come learn life-saving skills at the Singapore Red Cross’ CPR + AED Awareness Workshop (CAAW)! CAAW is an initiative targeted at training community first responders.
60 minutes. That’s all it takes for you to learn how to save a life.
Three years ago, I tried to save a life. An elderly neighbour suffered a cardiac arrest while he was swimming. While rushing to the pool, I recited the life-saving mnemonic, DRSABC (image below), to ensure that I would be able to help in a manner that is safe for everyone. Despite our best efforts, a few other neighbours and I subsequently learnt that the elderly man had passed on prior to our arrival. This incident, however, demonstrated the importance of having trained community first responders to help, as he could probably have been saved had CPR been administered earlier.
Tip: Time your chest compressions to the tune of “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees!
The CAAW was a much needed refresher from my previous Basic First Aid certification. It has been three years since I got certified, and thankfully two years since I put my CPR and AED skills into practice. Going for CAAW has reinforced the importance for everyone to be first aid trained, and has inspired me to sign up for a full-day Basic First Aid course. I believe that it is vital for everyone to be trained in the basics of how to save a life. I implore everyone, young and old, to get CPR & AED trained now.
The Singapore Red Cross Academy is currently offering Basic First Aid and CPR & AED with promotion, to commemorate National Life Saving Day in January 2022. Check out the details here. Limited seats, for fast fingers only. |
