Family LifeAid aims to build social, emotional and financial resilience of vulnerable families in Singapore through a holistic network of programmes, with a strong focus on children.
WHAT WE DO
Our volunteer befrienders not only provide food vouchers for families to put nutritious food on the table, they also provide weekly quality home-based tuition based on a structured curriculum for children aged nine to 12 to provide them with the opportunity to advance in life. Besides that, our volunteers also offer home-based storytelling for children aged four to eight years old to enhance their literacy and confidence in the English language during their formative years.
WHO WE HELP
Singapore Red Cross focuses on supporting those who may have fallen through the cracks of social services such as:
- Families that require urgent, immediate assistance
- Skipped-generation families (grandparent-headed households)
- Single-parent families
- Working poor families (especially low and lower-middle income)
- Families with persons with disabilities
HOW WE HELP
Singapore Red Cross - FairPrice Meals with Love Programme
Identified households receive food vouchers every month.
In addition, periodic reviews and assessments are carried out to monitor improvement or change in the family’s conditions, and to ensure that the direct needs of the families are met with our programme.
Even as Singaporeans become more affluent, there are still people struggling to get by, with minimal or no family and/or community support. The Singapore Red Cross has identified about 200 families every year who can benefit from a sustainable programme that aims to give every member of the family a leg-up in life. With your help, we can do more.
Young Hearts Programme
Environmental factors have been proven to influence a child’s development. Singapore Red Cross is integrating a series of initiatives under its Young Hearts Programme, to give young children and adolescents from ages 4 - 12 in challenging circumstances a leg-up in life. Young Hearts aims to instill moral values in our youth, encouraging them to become responsible and socially-conscious citizens.
Creating a safe haven for learning, we work with book specialist, Closetful of Books, to develop Stories for All; a reading programme to encourage juniors to read and build a foundation for the English language. We also leverage our Educators’ Network and entrust passionate teachers to provide one-on-one Tuition to school-going children to reduce academic gaps. Mentorship opportunities are also given to children who display aptitudes in specific areas to groom them into successful adults. Holiday Enrichment programmes are also integrated to help children acquire and retain important hard and soft skills.
"I get to experience what it takes to raise a child through volunteering for Family LifeAid, and it prepares me for how I can guide and teach my own children in the future. As we teach our children, we also learn life lessons from them. Volunteering with SRC is meaningful and I would 100% recommend my families and friends to sign up!" Ms Mary Grace SRC volunteer
